After 40 years as a journalist working on newspapers and in public relations, Robert E. Hartley turned to writing books, mostly about Illinois politics and history. Counting two books written while he was an editor, he has written, co-written and edited 13 books. In addition, he is published in history magazines in Illinois, Colorado and Arizona.
